Argie Bargie, a Fishy Tale, a City divided & a Piece of Piss.

17th March 2020

Hull Minster.
Memorial for the North Sea Ferry 'Norland' which was requisitioned by the Government in 1982 and was used as a troop ship for the Falklands Campaign.

I was one of the last civilian passengers on this ship returning home from Europort, Rotterdam after a school trip to Belgium. As we sailed up the Humber, passing Spurn Point, the Captain announced that, once we had all got off, The Norland was going for a quick conversion and was then off to the Falkland Islands with some Royal Marines to help a few Argentinians get off there too.

He then blasted out 'Rule Britannia' over the tannoy as we sailed into port.
Stirring stuff!

The Deep at Hull is an excellent aquarium. With walk through tanks and all kinds of sea critters. Even a penguin enclosure, which always goes down well.

Hull is home to a couple of very good rugby league clubs.

Hull FC & Hull Kingston Rovers.
I like both.
This puts me in a minority of one.

In Hull, you are either Black & White (Hull FC) or Red & White (sometimes Blue) (Hull Kingston Rovers).

Fate deals you which allegiance you are stuck with, depending on which side of the River you happen to come from.
West Side = HFC
East Side = HKR
....... which is confusing as The River Humber runs West to East, so the dry bits either side would be North and South.
BUT!!! There is another River in Hull! Imaginatively named 'The River Hull' and this one does run into the Humber from the North, splitting the city into the required East and West halves!
It is also liable to rapid tidal surges from the Humber/North Sea, so they have a flood barrier (photo).

And it's always good to piss all over burnley.
As I did in some rather splendid Gents.
