Red Rum

Another piece of public art. This time in the Wayfarer's Arcade, Southport. Grand National legend Red Rum, who used to train on the town's beach.

Side on Fred

It could be a pose from after the ball has been released I suppose, but I thought Fred had a 'side on' bowling action.....

The continuing and very occasional series of public art photographs reaches Skipton in North Yorkshie. Famed for it's castle and market, Skipton also hosts this rather splendid statue of Fred Trueman one time England and Yorkshire fast bowler and TV pub games presenter.
**Semi Interesting fact** I once stood next to Freddie Trueman at the bar of the Farmer's Glory pub in Haslingden. We were on the way home from a Rovers Reserves match, and he was at his wife, Veronica's, 50th birthday party.

A Foreign Field

Somewhere in a foreign field, the gunner isn't sleeping tonight but The Rovers are being proudly represented in Dingledom!
(It took a while to get back on track with my photo blog after swapping my mobile - the last phone (Sony Ericsson) sent pictures to the blog automatically, but now I've a Nokia I have to bugger around with eMails).

Stile in town.

Opposite the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough is this dry stone wall section with stile and signpost. Not sure why, but it does look nice. One of the better pieces of street art in the country, I think.

Spitfire @ Fairhaven.

Well, it's been a while! My last 'phone had a link to my blog built in. This new one doesn't, and it has taken me this long to work out how to do it. This is a picture of a Spitfire at Fairhaven Lake during a 'Help For Heroes' fundraiser.

Ginger Mongs!

One of the local delicacies of Scarborough is the 'Ginger Person ~ 4 for £1' as sold by Thomas The Baker in the town centre. These oddly shaped biscuits are a highlight of every visit and it is with much sadness that we find Smarties are now being used for eyes. Much more fun was had when 3 irregularly spaced currants, often in a straight line, represented eyes and nose. A highly recommended confectionary.
